Milverton, ON, Wednesday Sept. 4, 2019: This weekend the NASCAR Pinty’s Series is back in action where they will compete for the final time at Autodrome St. Eustache as the track is closing at the end of the 2019 season.
This quarter mile bullring has been kind to the 22 Racing team as owner Scott Steckly left his mark on it over his seven career NASCAR starts with four wins and two poles. Follow that up with Marc-Antoine Camirand getting his first NASCAR Pinty’s Series win here in 2018 and the team will be sad to see it leave the schedule. In 2018 the Lucas Oil 250 went into overtime and at the start of the green/white/checkered overtime, the lineup had all three 22 Racing drivers in the top three. When the dust settled Camirand was 1st, Tagliani 2nd and Theetge who restarted on the outside of row 1 got moved back to 5th. Overall it was a great day for 22 Racing.
“I always loved this place,” said Scott Steckly. “Once we got it figured out, we were able to be very competitive here and I’m glad that Marc was able to get his first win here as well keeping the tradition going with the #22 car.”
Alex Tagliani driver of the #18 Rona/EpiPen Chevrolet Camaro has six starts on this track with his best finish of 2nd coming last year. Tagliani is currently ranked 4th in Championship standings so he will be aiming to move up in those with a good finish here on Saturday night. He is coming off a 4th place finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, where he led the most laps right up until the final turn on the final lap when a fellow competitor moved him out of the way to snatch away the win.
Marc-Antoine Camirand driver of the #22 GM Paille Chevrolet Camaro got his first NASCAR win here last year and nothing but another win will suffice to keep him happy. Their season got off to a slow start, but they hope to continue to their momentum swing here after their second-place finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park last weekend. Camirand is currently in 9th in the championship standings.
Donald Theetge driver of the #24 Mercedes-Benz St Nicolas/Circuit Acura entry enters this weekend in 7th in the Championship standings. He is strong on these short tracks, so he is looking for a good finish here. In 2018 he was in contention for the win in a battle with teammate Camirand in NASCAR overtime, but starting on the outside here is difficult and typically spots are lost on re-starts. His 5th place finish was not indicative of the strength of his car so look for Theetge to be up front again this year battling for the win.
The Lucas Oil 250 presented by Bumper to Bumper and Coors Light takes place this Saturday with NASCAR Pinty’s Series practice at 1:20 p.m., followed by qualifying at 4:45 p.m., on track autograph session at 7:25 p.m. and green flag at 8:30 p.m. For more information on schedule and tickets please visit www.autodrome.ca
