Montréal, September 5, 2021 – Alex Tagliani came close to win Round 6 of the 2021 NASCAR Pinty’s Series race held Sunday at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in Bowmanville, Ontario. The driver from Lachenaie, Quebec led 25 of the 51 laps of the Clarington 200 but finally yielded first place on lap 47 to his Team 22 Racing mate Marc-Antoine Camirand who scored his first win of the season. Tagliani was hampere by a back marker who enabled Camirand to go bye, Starting seventh on the grid for the second of the weekend race, Tagliani had an up and down race as did most of the leading drivers of the series who had to make tremendous comebacks to score maximum points.
Camirand crossed the finish line in first place, ninth-tenths of a second ahead of runner-up Tagliani followed by rookie Kyle Marcelli who scored his first podium finish. Kevin Lacroix and Andrew Ranger completed the top five. The second place finish gave back to the driver of the RONA – Viagra – St Hubert Chevrolet Camaro first place in the drivers championship standings ahead of Kevin Lacroix and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin who had taken over the lead following his win on Saturday, but his 11th place finish on Sunday pushed him back to third place on Sunday.
Thirteen of the 24 starters finished on the lead lap.
“A fourth place yesterday and a runner-up position today (Sunday). It’s not a bad weekend of racing. We get out of Mosport on top of the championship standings and that is what is important,” said Alex Tagliani. “For Sunday’s race, I think we had a pretty good car. With a bit of hindsight, I think we sort of regret not to have made a tire change when the other teams did in their second stop. We added fuel during our first stop but did not make a stop when we had a chance to do so. They had made their stop but we did not. At the end of the race, they were on fresher tires, which enabled them to catch up to me very quickly. Still, I was slowed downed by a backmarker and Marc-Antoine (Camirand) took the opportunity to take over first place. It is still a good finish for me and for the Team 22 Racing with this one-two finish. My team did a great job in this run for the championship.”
The next two rounds of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series 2021 Championship will be held at Flamboro Speedway in West Millgrove, Ontario on September 12, 2021 The start of the Motomaster 125 is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. while the green flag for the start of the Quick Wick Firestarter will be waved at 5:45 p.m.

Alex Tagliani termine deuxième au Canadian Tire Motorsport Park et reprend la tête du championnat des pilotes
Montréal, 5 septembre 2021 – Alex Tagliani est passé près de remporter la victoire lors de la sixième étape de la saison 2021 NASCAR Pinty’s disputée dimanche au circuit routier de 3,956 kilomètres du Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) situé à Bowmanville en Ontario. Le pilote originaire de Lachenaie a mené 25 des 51 tours du Clarington 200, mais il a dû céder le premier rang au 47e passage de la course à son coéquipier Marc-Antoine Camirand de l’équipe 22 Racing qui a inscrit son premier gain de la saison. Lors du passage de Camirand, Tagliani a été ralenti par un attardé ce qui a permis à Camirand de le doubler. Parti du septième rang sur la grille de départ pour la deuxième des deux courses du weekend, Tagliani a connu une course en dents-de-scie, comme la plupart des pilotes de cette série qui ont dû faire des remontées pour inscrire le maximum de points.
Camirand a croisé l’arrivée avec une avance de moins de neuf dixièmes de seconde devant Tagliani suivi de la recrue ontarienne Kyle Marcelli qui complète le podium. Kevin Lacroix et Andrew Ranger ont complété le top 5. Ce deuxième rang redonne la tête du championnat des pilotes à Tagliani devant Kevin Lacroix et Louis-Philippe Dumoulin qui avait repris le commandement la veille avec sa victoire, mais son 11e rang aujourd’hui le fait glisser en troisième position du championnat.
Treize des 24 partants ont croisé l’arrivée sur le tour du vainqueur au terme de cette épreuve de 51 tours.
« Une quatrième hier et une deuxième aujourd’hui (dimanche), ce n’est pas un mauvais weekend pour les points. On sort de Mosport en tête du championnat. Ce qui est important, a déclaré Alex Tagliani. Pour la course de dimanche, je pense qu’on avait une excellente voiture. Avec un peu de recul, je pense qu’on regrette un petit peu d’avoir pris la décision de ne pas arrêter pour mettre des pneus neufs au deuxième arrêt. L’équipe a mis de l’essence au premier arrêt et lors du jaune suivant, les meneurs sont entrés et prit cette opportunité pour mettre des pneus neufs. En fin de course, mes pneus étaient plus vieux que ceux qui me poursuivaient ce qui leur a permis de revenir à l’avant-plan très rapidement. Par contre, j’étais tout de même en position de protéger ma place. Je me suis fait prendre au dépourvu en tentant de dépasser un retardataire et Marc-Antoine (Camirand) en a profité pour me doubler. J’ai dû me contenter de la deuxième place. C’est une bonne performance pour l’équipe 22 Racing avec ce doublé. C’est un bon travail pour l’équipe dans notre lutte pour le championnat. »
Les deux prochaines étapes du championnat NASCAR Pinty’s 2021 seront disputées sur la piste ovale du Flamboro Speedway à West Millgrove, Ontario le dimanche 12 septembre 2021. Le départ du Motomaster 125 sera donné à 16 h 05, tandis que le drapeau vert pour le lancement du Quick Wick Firestarter 125 sera déployé à 17 h 45.
