Edmonton, AB – Sunday, July 24, 2022 – In the highly-anticipated return of the Western swing in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series, the 22 Racing Team traveled to Edmonton International Raceway. It was a difficult night for the 22 Racing drivers in the Bayer 300, seeing Treyten Lapcevich finish 17th and Alex Tagliani finish 18th.
Raceday kicked off with practice, which saw Treyten Lapcevich score the 2nd fastest time and Alex Tagliani score 11th. During qualifying Tagliani established a great pace in his No. 18 Viagra / St Hubert Chevrolet Camaro qualifying 1st! Treyten Lapcevich qualified 6th. At 7:30 p.m. MDT (9:30 p.m. EST) the command to start the engines was given and the Bayer 300 went green.
This quarter-mile oval hosted a very exciting race for the fans! Both Tagliani and Lapcevich struggled in the first half of the race. Lapcevich got stuck in the outside lane forcing him to be shuffled back, while Tagliani felt that the car needed some adjustments.
There was a planned pit stop at the halfway mark allowing the drivers to fill up on fuel and get new tires. This also allowed the 22 Racing Team to make some changes to Tagliani’s car. “We made improvements by coming into the pits,” “by making all these great changes the car started to come alive…so I think our race started halfway,” Tagliani said. After the break Alex Tagliani and another car collided on the backstretch sending Tagliani into the wall and forcing him to come into the pits for emergency repairs. Meanwhile, Treyten Lapcevich’s No. 20 FBM / RGC Sports / Qwick Wick Chevrolet Camaro also had to come into the pits when problems with the alternator arised and he needed a new battery. After a quick battery change, Lapcevich got to work making up for the laps lost, “the car was good when we came back on the track, feeling good for Saskatoon,” Lapcevich said.
With 2 laps to go, Tagliani and another car collided, sending him into the wall again, causing heavy damage and ultimately ending his night. Treyten Lapcevich finished 17th and Alex Tagliani finished 18th. The 22 Racing Team is already hard at work getting the cars back in shape for their next stop on the Western swing: Saskatoon. On Wednesday, July 27th the No. 18 and 20 cars will be joined at Sutherland Automotive Speedway by Kyle Steckly making his NASCAR Pinty’s Series debut in his No. 22 APC Auto Parts / CANUSA / WingN’It Restaurants Chevrolet Camaro.
With the updated championship points standings, Alex Tagliani now holds 7th position, and Treyten Lapcevich holds 8th position.
